What is this practice?

Shade the same squares on the right grid as on the left. Three 4×4 grids.

Why this level

Step: Step 3 · Write & ReadAround age 6 and up (guide)

It uses no pictures at all — just lines and a grid, so the sheet is identical in every language. Both grids are the same size with the same number of squares; changing the size would turn it into copying at a different scale, which is too hard here. Symmetrical patterns are excluded, because a mirrored answer would also be correct and position would not really have been read.

Ages are only a guide. Children of the same age can do different things, so each card also shows what a child can already do.

The sheet title and the note for grown-ups are printed in English. Words inside the activity itself stay in Japanese or Traditional Chinese.

For grown-ups

  • Start from the top row and count how many squares from the left.
  • Finishing one row before moving down avoids mistakes.
  • Compare left and right at the end.
