What is this practice?

A 3×3 grid holds 3 kinds of picture. Fill the 3 empty squares so each row and column has one of each.

Why this level

Step: Step 1 · Grip・Around ages 2–3 (guide)

Sudoku without numbers. A child who cannot read digits can still solve it from one rule: the same picture may not repeat in a line. 3 squares are blank, with clues left in every row and column. The board is checked by exhaustive search to have exactly one solution.

Ages are only a guide. Children of the same age can do different things, so each card also shows what a child can already do.

The sheet title and the note for grown-ups are printed in English. Words inside the activity itself stay in Japanese or Traditional Chinese.

For grown-ups

  • Point at the pictures below the grid first to see what goes in.
  • Looking along one row at a time and asking which picture is missing works well.
  • Mistakes are fine — it can be erased and tried again.
