What is this practice?
Work down the column. One digit per box. The small dotted boxes are for carrying. 9 problems.
Why this level
Step: Grade 2 · Times Tables・Around ages 7–8, Grade 2 (guide)
Unlike a horizontal sum, the column method is all about aligning place values. The grid fixes the positions and the small boxes hold the carry.
Ages are only a guide. Children of the same age can do different things, so each card also shows what a child can already do.
The sheet title and the note for grown-ups are printed in English. Words inside the activity itself stay in Japanese or Traditional Chinese.
For grown-ups
- Start from the ones column.
- Write the carry in the small box.
- Keeping digits inside the boxes keeps the columns straight.
