What is this practice?

Part of each picture is cut out. Choose the piece that fits from the three on the right. Three sea animals questions.

Why this level

Step: Step 3 · Write & ReadAround age 6 and up (guide)

The decoys are cut from the same place on a different picture. Cutting elsewhere on the same picture would turn it into comparing similar patterns. The gap is near the middle, because an edge gap gives mostly blank pieces.

Ages are only a guide. Children of the same age can do different things, so each card also shows what a child can already do.

The sheet title and the note for grown-ups are printed in English. Words inside the activity itself stay in Japanese or Traditional Chinese.

For grown-ups

  • Tracing the edges of the gap with a finger helps.
  • If unsure, cover the chosen piece and compare.
  • It can be colored in afterwards.
