What is this practice?
Groups of pictures are placed on the left and on the right. Join the two groups that have the same number. 4 pairs.
Why this level
Step: Step 3 · Write & Read・Around age 6 and up (guide)
This sheet compares quantities without writing numerals — the step just before “write the number”. The pictures differ between left and right, so they cannot be matched by shape without counting, and the right column is deliberately out of order, so drawing straight across will not work. The largest group has 8.
Ages are only a guide. Children of the same age can do different things, so each card also shows what a child can already do.
The sheet title and the note for grown-ups are printed in English. Words inside the activity itself stay in Japanese or Traditional Chinese.
For grown-ups
- Count one group on the left, then count the right-hand groups in turn to find its match.
- Have the number said aloud. Pressing each picture with a finger prevents miscounting.
- A crooked line is fine. If it connects, it is correct.
