What is this practice?

Draw the same shape on the right of the dotted line: a butterfly, a ladybird and a rainbow.

Why this level

Step: Step 2 · Trace・Around ages 4–5 (guide)

There is no faint guide on the right. A guide would turn it into a tracing sheet and remove the part where the child works out the shape (for tracing, the light-line sheets are the better fit). Only symmetrical pictures are used, so what belongs on the other side is unambiguous. The centre line is dotted because a solid line looks like part of the picture.

Ages are only a guide. Children of the same age can do different things, so each card also shows what a child can already do.

The sheet title and the note for grown-ups are printed in English. Words inside the activity itself stay in Japanese or Traditional Chinese.

For grown-ups

  • Do not correct wobbly lines; grasping the shape is enough.
  • If it is hard, fold along the line and hold it up to the light.
  • Once drawn, it can be colored in.
