What is this practice?

A whole sheet for just “4”. There are 4 rows; on each, trace two faint numbers then write two more.

Why this level

Step: Step 2 · Trace・Around ages 4–5 (guide)

Numbers have fewer strokes than hiragana, so they take shape even soon after a child first holds a pencil. The boxes stay 39.5mm (smaller boxes push the grip out of shape). Saying “4 of them” while writing links the shape to the amount.

Ages are only a guide. Children of the same age can do different things, so each card also shows what a child can already do.

The sheet title and the note for grown-ups are printed in English. Words inside the activity itself stay in Japanese or Traditional Chinese.

For grown-ups

  • Mirror-writing is common at this age. Please don’t correct it.
  • Counting the same number on fingers links the amount to the shape.
