What is this practice?
Each picture on the left carries a number. Lines leave the pictures, cross one another, and end at a box on the right; write the number in the box the line reaches. 4 lines.
Why this level
Step: Step 2 · Trace・Around ages 4–5 (guide)
There are 4 lines, and every one is checked to cross at least one other — without crossings the answer could be seen at a glance. All lines share the same weight and shade, so colour cannot be used as a shortcut. Only a single digit is written: asking for a drawing would let a child who followed the line correctly still fail. Tracing with a pencil is fine, but following with the eyes alone is what helps with keeping one's place when reading.
Ages are only a guide. Children of the same age can do different things, so each card also shows what a child can already do.
The sheet title and the note for grown-ups are printed in English. Words inside the activity itself stay in Japanese or Traditional Chinese.
For grown-ups
- Using a finger at first is fine; try with the eyes alone once it gets easier.
- If a crossing is confusing, back up a little and try again.
- The answers are in the note for grown-ups.
