What is this practice?

Why this level

Step: Step 1 · Grip・Around ages 2–3 (guide)

Straight down in one go. There is nowhere to change direction, so this is the first of the nine a child can manage. This shape appears in the vertical stroke in 十 and 中. Each one is 50mm across and there are 9 on the sheet. Because it is traced over a dotted line, a child who has no sense of the shape yet can still reach the end. A sheet for drawing the same shape unaided is provided separately.

Ages are only a guide. Children of the same age can do different things, so each card also shows what a child can already do.

The sheet title and the note for grown-ups are printed in English. Words inside the activity itself stay in Japanese or Traditional Chinese.

For grown-ups

  • Please don’t correct a wobbly shape. Getting to the end is the point.
  • There is no need to do all 9. Stop when your child has had enough.
  • A pencil, a crayon or a colored pencil are all fine.
