What is this practice?

The 3 romaji spellings wa wo n. On each row, trace two faint spellings then write in the two empty boxes.

Why this level

Step: Step 2 · Trace・Around ages 4–5 (guide)

The spellings follow Hepburn romanization (shi, chi, tsu, fu). The boxes are 39.5mm, the same size as on the hiragana sheets. A romaji spelling can be 2 or 3 letters in one box, so a smaller box would not fit it.

Ages are only a guide. Children of the same age can do different things, so each card also shows what a child can already do.

The sheet title and the note for grown-ups are printed in English. Words inside the activity itself stay in Japanese or Traditional Chinese.

For grown-ups

  • Read them as sound units, not as letter names (“ay”, “bee”).
  • There is no need to fill all four boxes.
  • Placing the matching hiragana sheet alongside makes the pairing easier to see.
