What is this practice?

The five characters あ い う え お. On each row, trace two faint characters then write in the three empty boxes.

Why this level

Step: Step 2 · Trace・Around ages 4–5 (guide)

The boxes are 39.5mm, big enough to write in even with a whole-hand grip. Only 2 faint characters are given; the other 2 boxes are written unaided. A faint cross inside each box acts as a guide.

Ages are only a guide. Children of the same age can do different things, so each card also shows what a child can already do.

The sheet title and the note for grown-ups are printed in English. Words inside the activity itself stay in Japanese or Traditional Chinese.

For grown-ups

  • Please don’t correct the shape. Inside the box is enough.
  • Stopping after the faint characters have been traced is fine.
  • If a pencil is still hard to hold, a thick colored pencil or crayon is fine.
