What is this practice?

Trace the capital A and small a, then trace 3 words that start with A.

Why this level

Step: Step 3 · Write & Read・Around age 6 and up (guide)

Unlike sheets that repeat one letter, this also writes words beginning with it, linking shape to sound on a single page. 3 words come with a picture and the Chinese meaning. Four ruled lines are used because small letters have ascenders and descenders that a square box cannot place.

Ages are only a guide. Children of the same age can do different things, so each card also shows what a child can already do.

The sheet title and the note for grown-ups are printed in English. Words inside the activity itself stay in Japanese or Traditional Chinese.

For grown-ups

  • Look at the model at the top left, then trace the pale letters.
  • Trace the capital line first, then the small line, to see the difference.
  • Saying the word aloud while tracing links sound to shape.
